PrEP & PEP — HIV Prevention

Not sure if you need PrEP or PEP? Tapestry clinicians can help you figure out the right HIV prevention option for your situation, at locations across Western Massachusetts.

PrEP & PEP — HIV Prevention

PrEP is a daily medication that significantly reduces your risk of getting HIV.Tapestry now offers injectable PrEP with injections needed every 6 months.

PEP is an emergency medication taken after a possible exposure that can prevent HIV from taking hold, but it must be started within 72 hours, so don’t wait.

Who Is This For?

PrEP is for anyone who wants ongoing protection against HIV.

You don’t need symptoms, a specific diagnosis, or a referral, just a conversation with a clinician.

PEP is for anyone who may have been exposed to HIV in the past 72 hours through unprotected sex, needle sharing, or another situation. The sooner you start, the more effective it is.

If you think you may have been exposed, call us today.

What is the Difference Between PrEP and PEP

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is taken daily before any possible exposure to HIV. It’s for people who want ongoing, long-term protection.

PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is taken after a possible exposure and must be started within 72 hours to be effective. PEP is a 28-day medication regimen.

How To Get Started

For PrEP, call your nearest Tapestry location or schedule online. Initial appointments are typically available within 1 to 2 weeks. Telehealth appointments are available for follow-up care.

For PEP, call immediately. Same-day and within-hours urgent appointments are available. No appointment is required.

What to Expect at Your Visit

You’ll meet with a clinician who will review your situation and conduct an HIV test before starting either medication.

Photo ID is helpful but not required. Bring your insurance card if you have one.
